The History of the Philadelphia Zoo

The Philadelphia zoological garden opened with almost 300 animals on display in 1874. The city of Philly decided it was going to be a zoo that prioritized science and education. During World War I, food starts being rationed so zoos start feeding their big meat eating animals like dog food or sometimes even horse meat. After slaughtering all these bears, the San Diego Zoo actually made the Sweeney Todd asked decision to sell all their dead bears to local hotels for brunch.
