I think there's that prevailing concern that good pain and bad pain. And if I ignore it, I will be offered a different solution that may not remedy the problem later. So we might as well take care of this problem today, even though it isn't actually causing disability or pain. Back in your days as a resident, about the only way to help people with this was just surgically go in and clean out the knee. With bone on bone pain, making it so difficult to walk, get up and down out of a chair, climb stairs and so forth, cleaning out the debris sometimes just led to people having to deal with and learn to adapt rather than really being better.
