The Importance of Ideology Critique in Animal Welfare

Ideology critique is only something we need if we want to get a view of human produced social structures that harm animals and block our view of them. We might think it's a fairly common view that seeing animals themselves is really a plain matter of passive perceptual receptivity, so it's important also to say that unequivocally active work needs to be done to see animals themselves. So you brought up the case of pigs, which is one of the ones we start our book with. And here I'll use it as an illustration or the case of industrial animal agriculture slightly more generally, which is the context in which we're talking about pigs.
