The Importance of Faith in Science
Faith is a bad word amongst most scientists. You hear that word and you re l and youthink all faith. The pure rationalist has no place here. Every scientist makes many deep epistemic and metaphysical assumptions in order to do his science. As einstein has said, you could not be a scientist if you didn't know that the external world existed in reality. But that knowledge is not gained by any cess of reasoning. It is a direct perception. And therefore, in its nature, it is akin to what is called faith. This creates blind spots. We are always brought face to face with the irrational, else we could not have faith.
