The Intransigence of Macron
Macron is a lame duck president and can't stand again at the next presidential elections. He has been tactically very inept at trying to gain complicity of sections of the Labour movement that would have been happy to collaborate with him on a somewhat different set of reforms. I think there may also be a strategic issue here which is that, as we've discussed before in previous discussions, you know, Macron's support was originally based on soaking up centre-left votes. And so strategically, if the idea is to really squeeze the right so that it's forced to splinter then this reform could play that kind of role.
