The Death of Enkidu in Babylonia
Gilgamesh is beside himself with grief at the death of his friend and the horror of death in general. He sits by Enkidu's dead body for much longer than normal people we usually buried quickly after death in Babylonia but six days and seven nights pass. Gilgamesh finally comes to that realization when he sees a maggot drop from Enkidu’s nostril. This is the turning point for him up to this point this has been a poem about two heroes doing glorious things and offending the gods by doing that now it turns into a quest a quest for immortality.
