The Impact of Social Media on Anonymity
Do you think that the restrictions on cross examining alleged rape victims have left the law unbalanced? And is there a risk of wrongful convictions? No, I don't think so. The fact that somebody has had sexual relationships before or after doesn't mean to say that in this particular incidence, it's an issue. Consent is about somebody having the ability to give consent freely. Not when they're incapacitated through drink, not when they're being coerced into it. A reasonable person would know that that person is giving consent. Another problem raised by this case is that the woman who complained that she'd been raped by Chair Evans, he was acquitted, she's been widely named on social media.
