How Small Are the Birds?

Researchers found that the trick is not in the group as a whole, but instead it's a system of much smaller groups all communicating with each other. Using more than 400 photos of mermoration movement, they were able to build a mathematical model that would determine te optimal group size for an individual bird to keep track of. And the magic number was, drum roll please, verve.
