Starts With a Bang #96 - Detecting the Cosmic Gravitational Wave Background

Starts With A Bang podcast

The New Type of Gravitational Wave Signals

Dr. Thankful Cromerty is an Einstein postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University and expert in neutron stars, pulsars, and the gravitational wave signals that we can use networks of them to detect. We first detected these back in 2015 when the LIGO gravitational wave observatory saw the signals from two black holes in the final stages of an inspiral and merger. But now we're seeing gravitational waves that aren't from any one individual source like that, but rather from gravitational waves that are generated all throughout the universe. And here to guide us through this science and take us deep into the weeds, I'm so pleased to welcome to the program Dr. Thankfully Cromerty.
