Speculative or Practical Reasoning?
Contemplative life is characterized by the very act of contemplation, which is a simple gaze on the truth. A contemplative person prefers speculative reasoning in order to know the truth for its own sake. Contemplatives live for the moments when the truth dawns on them. There's an element of the intellectual life as certiange understands it that extends beyond the contemplative life as saint thomas understands it. And so teaching belongs not to the category of acts appertaining specially to the contemplativelife, but to the active life.
