Heschel had a hiscetic background, but he became a modern scholar. So there are things in hiscetic philosophy that he would not subscribe to. Tikkun Olam has nothing to do with saving the whales. It doesn't. Every meets vah is Tik Kun Olam. The idea that there are breaks in God that human beings can affect is a beautiful idea,. But as, if you're a rationalist, it's a hard idea to absorb.
