The Importance of Recapitulating the Past

I don't think we can draw wisdom and learn from examples of the past, but we have to try to apply them to a novel circumstance. So it really is kind of a tricky thing to say, okay, clearly we've gone off course and our notions of progress have probably been poorly capitulated. And so that process of trying to take what was useful and apply it to the current circumstance in the best way possible will always need to be both recapitulated and vigilantly stewarded.
