The Origins of Computer Languages

Chomsky: The first time when people started to try and make a more formal description of kind of the language that computers were programmed in, I think was Algo. Now very curiously right around the same time as back us and now I'm making that up, right 1956, noam Chomsky was inventing kind of generative grammars. And he's not quite sure which came first or whether it was sort of a convergent evolution kind of thing, but in 1956 both of these things kind of landed.
