When Did the Famine Become a Disaster?

When did the famine become known as a disaster? It seems to be. You tell me. Yeah, well my take on this is that had the potato not failed again in the summer of 1846, we wouldn't be here talking about the famine at all. And there was a sense that, like I mentioned earlier, there was no going back to where we were before. A whole system of life, a whole way of organizing society, employment, agriculture production was gone.
