19: The Enigma of Emily Dickinson (Part 2)
Creative Codex
Emily's Poems
In the last episode, we came to know Emily mainly through her poems. These perfectly sculpted works of verse have been an effective window into her distinct genius. But they only give us half the picture, half of who she was as a thinker and as a person. Scholars of her work don't have an autobiography to go by. She didn't write seven books about her life like Salvador Dali did. For Emily, we have to piece together an understanding of her life and her world through letters. You can imagine the excitement that would bubble up if you were waiting for a letter from someone you felt affection for in the 1800s.
