The Right Wing and Neoliberal Democrats Converge Around Charter Schools
Between the fall of 2009 and fall 2019 charter school enrollment nationwide grew from 3% of public school students to 7%. Despite these victories, though, true believers in the free market weren't satisfied. Charter schools for all their entrepreneurial goals were still just a half measure. They opened schools up to competition, certainly, but they remained under state oversight.
