The Consensus Algorithm That Emerged in Salana

The VDF is a physical delay based on some hard physics. It basically stops the whole network, requires the whole network to come to agreement and then somebody else goes. We can use that physics delay in a very similar way to how Bitcoin uses the entropy like forcing function before you can make a block. That means that we're forcing you to wait until I should be done. Now there's no guarantee that I'm done, but because I want my block to succeed, I will send my block out before I know you're going to start or change your block to mine. This kind of creates that whole block propagation without any gaps, without any rounds.
