Catharsis in a Romance
Pity, emotional empathy and fear that the character will not get what they want or that something might happen to them allows us to have catharsis. In a way, you have to have those characters having pity and fear for each other in order for that emotional catharsis in a romance to really work at the end. The runaway bride is dissecting the whole tropes of romance. She has what seems like the picture perfect happy ending and she runs away from it because psychological would go back to that.
