How to Build a Character Into Narrative

There's a technique, not totally related to this, but there's a technique. We're talking about Ronan that we talked about in Galaxy Quest where I personally my theory on these kind of movies that are a little fun and funny and people laugh things off is you need your villain to be kind of serious and scary. So I think they sort of do that in this maybe. Jamie, the building it into narrative. How would you describe that?
