Carl Benz only built his first automobile in 1885. So that's kind of acknowledged as the first practical like gas or diesel engine automobile. The earliest automobiles and even buggies would use kerosene or acetylene lamps on the front ends of their cars with reflective mirrors. But could you imagine having gotten light your headlights? And I'm better driving and it doesn't smash and burn you up?
