The Difference Between Liver Enzymes and Liver Function Tests
Liver enzymes refers to the intracellular enzymes that help produce protein synthesis. In end stage liver disease, this organ is shriveled into at least one quarter its size and you don't have the mass of hepatocytes there to cause a huge bump in your enzyme count. If you want to focus on actual function, then it's a synthetic capability of the liver. INR, PT and serum albumin are markers of real liver function tests.
