Reed Read fell in love with role playing games as a child. His favorite game was Runquest, which let players take on the role of fantastical characters and embark on mystical adventures. One day when he was twelve, Reed discovered that a friend of his lived near the actual office where the Runquest game was designed. The two of them hatched a plan for a real life quest to meet the creator of their favorite game.
