The Legacy of Reverend Jackie Aits
Reverend Jackie Aits was enslaved by an enslaver in Virginia and his wife and 10 kids. He escaped to Texas with his family, where he started a church that grew into the city of Freedman's town. Emancipation Park is still there; third and fourth ward gets its significance from Jack Yates' community. "Freedman's Town" airs at 9 p.m. ET Sunday on PBS stations across the country.
