The Cornelof Affair

The last remaining shreds of the government's legitimacy was still tied to the expectation that they would convene a constituent assembly. So after very nearly being overthrown in the july days, the provisional government started making announcements. The fact that the constituent assembly was slated to meet in november was part of the reason kornelof and korensky conspired to declare martial law in august. But if this is what they were trying to accomplish, the cornelof affair was a de bacl it was a complete failure.
