England has one great trick. It has a incredible financial system, democracy, and they speak the English language. And they have great trade linkages with the entire world. So when the US stumbles in particular in financial markets, the UK picks up the slack and does something called regulatory arbitrage. The Eurodollar market is the offshore lending of dollars.
