The Origins of the Divine Psychopomp
Apollo agreed to forgive Hermes if he would give him the liar. He eventually gives Hermes the caduceus and allows him to become a fully recognized member of Olympus with Zeus's blessing. If you look at the archetype of this story, it's essentially how disruptive external energy violates, overturns, and becomes the status quo.
