The Importance of Yin Nan Province
Yin Nan province was the Tang dynasty's protectorate from 679 to 905. It had a 796 mile 1,281 kilometer long border with modern northern Vietnam. The Chinese were wary of the Tibetan Empire in all their eastward ambitions and these two reasons alone made Yin Nan very important to China. As Tang soldiers started showing up with more frequency between 649 and 656 they were met with no small amount of resistance from Yin Nan tribal armies not appreciative of the incursions. Some historians consider him to be the Nan Zhao Kai Guo Jin Wang the founding monarch of Nan Zhao but Nan Zhao wasn't formally established in his lifetime.
