The Relationship Between the Declaration of Independence and Slavery
How on earth can a document say all men are created equal but not include women, African-Americans, the native nations, everyone else in the country? One potential and disputed reason for this could be that maybe they didn't even really mean it. And even call it a throwaway line. That's how we can change the meaning of a document. The fundamental right that the Declaration of Independence asserts is to get rid of governments if we don't like them.
