Among the earliest arrivals who came 18 54 18 64, was a man named chin pa kong. He survived the plantation life and opened up a grocery wholesale operation on pechon street in downtown kingston. And it didn't take long for these chinese pretty much establish one small store in just about every town and village of jamaica. So ubiquitous were these stores and the consistency of the product mix they all sold, they became known as chinese shops.
