Sally Kohn: AirPods are a really wonderful example of product design that is just entirely hostile to the very idea of repair. You buy them, use them until the battery is depleted and then dispose of them in one fashion or another. She says Apple actually has to pay their recycling partners a premium to even take the AirPods because they're so difficult to recycle. Kohn: That's a design that is imposing massive costs on the public when we think about the tens of millions, hundreds of millions of pairs of these things that have been produced.
Do we really own the devices we buy? ‘The Right to Repair’ author Aaron Perzanowki joins Adam to explain how companies are using their power to control the products we buy from them, even after they’ve left the store, and prevent us from repairing them ourselves. They discuss how this affects the environment, the livelihood of farmers, and the longevity of AirPods, and Aaron shares resources on how we can take power back and do our own repairs.
