Angela Merkel appears to divide the world into two kinds of people. There are those who go Nazi and those who don't. She clearly identified herself as one who wouldn't, which goes some way towards explaining her strong position in supporting Roosevelt. But then later that year, end of 1941, Japanese born Pearl Harbor, America joins the war. And at that point, everyone comes round to her point of view or beyond and she pivots again.
