Long Beach City Council's hubris lies in thinking it can simply mandate wage increases and no unintended consequences will ensue. The ignorance lies in apparently having no idea how the grocery business works, Ant says. Kroger does around $40 million each year in sales but has expenses of 2.2%. "One would expect that a governmental body like Long Beach City Council would do a bit more homework before ordering grocery stores simply to pay their workers more," Ant says.
