The book is based on the life of Justin, who was martyred for being a Christian. In it he apologizes and explains his faith to an emperor in Rome. He also talks about how you cannot simply get to God by the power of your reason or the Platonist learned true things about God,. But you have to accept the limitations of your humanity that has been revealed through God's word and then through his son.
