Student Centres - What Makes It Unavoidable

Universities should make it unavoidable that they are going to have collisions, interactions with others who are different from them. We're involved in a project now to design a student centre that has long been yoaring for a johns hopkins. A key theme of that student centr will be, how do you create spaces that will allow students to meet within groups that might be defined by their political interests or their educational interests. And so i think there's a lot you can do in terms of the extra curricular dimensions of this intense four year perience that can cut against the instinct for isolation and for replication of thedifferent solitudes that we see in this country.
