Sorwana's Life and Work
During her lifetime Sorwana was nicknamed the 10th Muse and the Phoenix of America. The younger Sorwana had recognized that a convent was the best place for her to continue her studies, even though she didn't actually feel a religious calling to be there. She died on September 17th, 1695 at the age of about 46. Multiple biographies have been written since then, including one by Mexican poet Octavio Paz.
