The Paranoia of Stalin

Stalin found him obstructive on several occasions getting in the way of Stalin's priority, which was purely strategic. In 1936, for example, Stalin had to intervene following the famous Xi'an incident when Jankai Shek was kidnapped by his own officers. Mao was trying to get him handed over to the CCP for trial and execution. His dossier around Mao, listed, referred to Mao as a Trotskyite in Japanese spy. That is somebody who's read outside, but white on the inside.
