Khalid Ibn Walid and His 10,000 Soldiers in Syria
Khalid Ibn Walid and his cavalry of 10,000 soldiers came over from Persia. They joined Abu Orbeda and his army and together they made a force of about 20,000 soldiers. The main thing that terrified the Romans was when they learned the leader of this cavalry was none other than Khalid Ibn Walid. He instructed the soldiers to lay siege to the fortresses of Basra and within a few days, they surrendered. It was the first major victory for the Muslims in Syria.
