Pope's Failure at Second Battle of Bull Run
The battle was a disaster for the Union. 14,000 of their soldiers died. The Confederate casualties are lower. It's not clear how much lower because you can't trust Confederate stats. They barely kept them at all. But more importantly, the Army Lincoln and Alec invented for Pope, brought him east and shunted various units into this new army, the Army of Virginia. John Porter for refusing to attack when ordered by Pope was court-martialed and convicted,. then pardoned, of course, wrongly pardoned, as I see it.
