Nico was with the group when they were sacked by Andy Warhol and Paul Marissey. The pair had been trying to promote a Velvet Underground tour in London. Nico essentially told them they could stick their group, after all she'd recorded an album by herself and they hadn't. She then flew off to California where she met up again with her on again off again of Brian Jones and went with him to the Monterey Pop Festival. By this time the group had already been performing for months, much of the material it would make up their second album wouldn't have had any room in it for Nico anyway.
