Swami Ramananda Saraswati was a non-dualist, but very syncretic in the sense that he accepted devotion fully. He was also fond of Kashmiri Shaivism and even studied and taught those texts. But fundamentally, his home tradition was Advaita Vedanta. The Swami told this story about the grace of the guru, but the story has so many other aspects.
