The final disassociation which is really with comes in fully with Renee Descartes and the philosophy of Descartes himself someone who absolutely loved machines no surprise. For Descartes God just not rolls the dice but he turns the hands of the clock and for Mumford as well our responsibility is removed because the machine itself is machining. We become sort of these machine puppets on a string we're just plugged into that supposed abstract thing. The church at this point I guess for Mumford there is this sort of public disgust regarding the body and its animalistic processes right? These are coming up head to head with oddly the solidification of the enlightenment, you know.
