The High Ideal of Chivalry in the Middle Ages
Chivalry, that word that we know in english, it simply comes from the french, chevalry. Chevalier is a horseman and Rigt a warrior on horseback. And a chivalry is a sort of vague catchall term for the high ideals that people at this time attached to the way of life of an knight. The first version of the chanson de roland was probably written around ten forty. They start to emerge right in this high mediaeval period.
