The Modern West's Cultural Arrogance
I think that the modern West is unique in its cultural arrogance, says Tom Foreman. The idea that there is something called religion that is separate from everything else in society is a distinctively Western one which is theologically determined. In a way, it's a brilliant way for us to proselytize our values because although it's bread of Christian theology, it's kind of ended up cannibalizing institutional Christianity. We've been able to get away with this conceit for as long as we have done due to global hegemonic power. But as that ends, I think our ability to assume that our values are universal will go into retreat as well.
