Stolen headstones, paving and royal mail post boxes are just a few recent examples of heritage crimes. When can you imagine the impact of some one going to visit their ancestor's grave and finding it's not there? And this is why we were so delighted to work with the sentence in council when they were reviewing their guide line for theft and handling stolen goods. We made the point that these are special crimes, and they agreed. So if you are convicted of stealing a heritage asset, like a church roof or or a gravestone,you are liable to an uplift. But of course, we've got to make sure that the prosecutor and the courts are aware that it's a heritage
