Is There a Difference Between Mademoiselle Rice and Edna?
The idea thatwe have these two divergent s of womanhood ths sort of a spectrum, with edna being pulled in either direction. Madame ratanole representing the ideal creole womanhood, and mademoiselle rice representing a sort of bohemian artistic life style which is relatively free. As far as what the novel thinks about these two women, i mean, interestingly, every one dislikes madenoiselle rice, including edna. Edna's not a huge fan of her personally, but she represents somethingtra dent. And so i think edna is wondering, why can't i have that kind of freedom?
