The Numbering of the Tribes
The people being numbered here are the survivors and descendants of persons who have been judged on account of their unfaithfulness. Larger tribes like judah would be given a large inheritance, but smaller tribes like simeon would be given small one. The land itself would be divided by lot. How was it actually divided according to lot, or according to the size of the tribe? We might struggle ton adhow both could be the case.
