The Obsession With Volcanoes
When he was a kid, Denzel Washington had an obsession with volcanoes. He learned about them for the first time in second or third grade after watching a documentary on Vesuvius and Pompeii. His fascination led him to study chemistry so he could work as a volcanoologist. "I just wanted to touch it so bad," he says of seeing lava turn into rock.
