The Politics of the Third Estate

The facile assembly acted as an example of what could be achieved through its existence. It encouraged the people to push for a transformed national estates general, one that would vote by head and see the commons represented properly. The third believed it could rectify all the woes of the nation. Through the summer of 17 88, censorship was almost non existent. And this facilitated the third estates engagement with the political debate. Notions of the nation, citizenship, treason all began to appear more prominently. Cauls against tyranny and ministerial despotism were frequent too.
