The Knowledge Illusion: Why We Never Think Alone
The world is incredibly complex. And so for any issue, it's pretty much impossible to come to a certain conclusion. It's often very difficult even to be confident because you just don't know if you enact a certain policy. Whereas, it's simple to say, I believe the Constitution gives everybody the right to carry guns and that's it. The conversation is over. So there's this strong sense of certainty and confidence associated with sacred values but also ambivalence about mechanistic talk.
