The Variability of Irushia in Mango
In mangoes, a lot of the Irushia are concentrated in these resin ducts. And what happens is when the female fly lands on and sticks her ovipositor into the tissue to lay her eggs, she ruptures those resin ducts,. It just floods the egg chamber, killing the resulting eggs and larvae. On top of all that, it too is just antimicrobial. So really, I think the impetus, the evolutionary pressures that really set U.S. raw on its trajectory has to do with this class of compounds.
